TEPIK and IVI to cooperate on influenza R&D
On June 27, 2012, the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and Transgovernmental Enterprise for Pandemic Influenza in Korea (TEPIK) signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on research and development on pandemic influenza. TEPIK aims to reinforce national research and development capacity and to establish a transgovernmental cooperative system to ensure public safety from pandemic influenza. The two organizations have agreed to cooperate with each other in regards to joint research and academic exchange, including joint research activities; sharing of researchers for collaborative study, lectures, and discussions; participation in seminars, symposia, and academic meetings; and exchange of academic materials and publications.
Dr. Christian Loucq, Director-General of IVI, said, “I think IVI’s signing of MOU with TEPIK will provide a great opportunity for research in the influenza field, and I hope that (the two organizations) will conduct joint research through cooperation, and develop our two organizations through sharing of research findings and academic conferences going forward.
Dr. Kim Woo-joo, chief of TEPIK, said, “This MOU is aimed at elevating R&D capacity by one notch by constructing an influenza R&D cooperation network through exchange of information and research between TEPIK and IVI, and (they) are expected to further boost synergistic effect by strengthening domestic and international networks through these types of agreements."
