Welcome to the Austria Country Office (ACO) in Vienna, established to advance partnerships with biotechnology companies, academic institutions, and public health stakeholders across Austria and the region.

Acting as the International Vaccine Institute’s direct link to Austria and a bridge to a wider European region, ACO supports regional outreach, fosters research collaboration and mobilizes scientific contributions toward IVI’s mission.

ACO successfully facilitated Austria’s accession as an IVI Member State and funder in 2024. In coordination with ACO the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health Care and Consumer Protection and the Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research jointly provide IVI €800,000 in annual core funding

Background and timeline

2022: IVI and the Government of Austria agree to establish an IVI presence in Vienna, recognizing shared priorities in global health security, vaccine innovation, and international scientific cooperation. ACO began early operations in November.

2023: The Host Country Agreement is concluded and the Austria Country Office is formally opened, establishing a platform for engagement with Austria’s research and biotechnology ecosystem.

2024: Following parliamentary approval of the IVI Establishment Agreement, Austria becomes IVI’s 27th Member State.
