Leadership
The International Vaccine Institute is a treaty-based international organization with member states. The primary governing body is the Board of Trustees, which includes representatives from IVI’s host countries, state parties, the World Health Organization, and at-large members with expertise across public health, industry, international diplomacy, finance, and other relevant sectors.
The main responsibility of the Board of Trustees is to provide the Leadership Team with the strategic direction and oversight to ensure IVI fulfills its mission, and to set policies, approve the budget, and appoint the Director General.
Each state party that contributes recurring core funding to IVI is eligible to appoint a voting member to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, two voting board seats are reserved for non-funding state party representatives elected through the Global Council.
The Global Council is a representative assembly through which IVI’s state parties provide input to IVI’s Board of Trustees and management related to needs and solutions for vaccine development and implementation, vaccine equity and access, and capacity-building at global, regional, and national levels.
In addition to the Global Council, two advisory committees guide IVI’s scientific research and diplomatic relations: the Scientific Advisory Group and the Global Advisory Group of Experts. Representatives from these bodies sit on the Board of Trustees as observers.
