Byoung-Shik Shim, Ph.D. is a Senior Research Scientist and Lab Manager at IVI working on the assessment of clinical samples, development of adjuvants, and conducting systems serology for viral pathogens. Additionally, as the lab manager, he is responsible for managing research projects and helping the Science unit efficiently operate laboratory functions.
Byoung-Shik Shim worked at IVI from February 2005 through December 2013. After completing his post-doctoral fellowship, he re-joined IVI in 2020 as a Research Scientist.
Prior to IVI, Byoung-Shik Shim held the position of post-doctoral fellow at the University of Georgia and Scripps Institute Florida. During these fellowships, his primary research focused on exploring virus-host interactions, particularly with poliovirus, and investigating flavivirus entry mechanisms, including those of zika, West Nile, and dengue viruses.
Byoung-Shik Shim earned his doctorate in the field of viral immunology at Seoul National University.
