IVI and the United Arab Emirates

Member State Relations

On 7 July 2006, the IVI Board of Trustees voted to approve the UAE as an IVI member state, following a request from the UAE Ministry of Health.

On 13 September 2021, the UAE Council of Ministers approved a decree to ratify the IVI Establishment Agreement and join IVI.

On 9 February 2022, the UAE deposited an instrument of accession to the IVI Establishment Agreement, becoming IVI’s 38th member state and 20th state party. 

Emirati Leadership at IVI

Since 2023, the UAE has been represented on the IVI Global Council by Dr. Nada Hassan Al Marzouqi, Director of the Public Health and Prevention Department of the Ministry of Health.

Previous Collaboration

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV)

Emirati health officials participated in a MERS symposium co-organized by IVI and the World Health Organization in Seoul, Korea in 2018.
