IVI and Spain
Member State Relations
In 2006, the IVI Board of Trustees approved Spain as an IVI member state following a request from the Embassy of Spain in the Republic of Korea to join IVI.
In 2021, during an official visit to Spain by the President of the Republic of Korea, it was announced that Spanish authorities were engaged in the IVI accession process.
In February 2022, the Council of Ministers of the government of Spain authorized the government to join IVI and referred the IVI Establishment Agreement to the Parliament of Spain (Cortes Generales) for ratification. Shortly thereafter, the Cortes Generales ratified the IVI Establishment Agreement.
On April 22, 2022, Spain deposited an instrument of accession to the IVI Establishment Agreement with the United Nations.
