Alberto Cagigi, Ph.D., is a Senior Director at the International Vaccine Institute (IVI)’s Europe Regional Office, where he oversees vaccine development projects to ensure they meet high-quality standards. In addition to managing ongoing projects, he is responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities that align with IVI’s mission of advancing global vaccine research and development.
Before joining IVI, Dr. Cagigi held leadership roles at prominent institutions, including Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden; the Children’s Hospital Bambino Gesù in Rome, Italy; and the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, USA, among others. His contributions have spanned research as well as pre-clinical and clinical development of vaccines and immunotherapies targeting pathogens such as HIV, Ebola, Influenza, Rabies, and SARS-CoV-2.
With extensive experience in academia, as well as in the matrix-governed biotech industry, Dr. Cagigi has successfully managed collaborative projects with diverse stakeholders, delivering innovative solutions in immunotherapy and vaccine development.
Dr. Cagigi earned his Ph.D. in Immunobiology from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, and a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Cagliari, Italy. He has authored numerous impactful publications in immunology and vaccine research and development, contributing to advancements in global health.
