Hepatitis E Disease Burden Study

In 2010, IVI conducted a Hepatitis E disease burden study in Uzbekistan, with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The program objectives included:

  1. Studying Hepatitis E disease burden in Uzbekistan to determine the potential for vaccine clinical trials and vaccine demonstration projects.
  2. To identify high-risk groups and regions, and Hepatitis E risk factors.
  3. To enhance standardized Hepatitis E surveillance.

The study collected epidemiological data on Hepatitis E by following a study population of 600 individuals seeking care at health facilities in Urgench and Tashkent in 2010.
