IVI and El Salvador

On 7 November 2023, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Adriana Mira led a delegation visit to IVI Headquarters in Seoul to discuss El Salvador’s accession to IVI and collaborative opportunities in public health and vaccine R&D. 

 

On 14 December 2023, the Executive branch of the government of El Salvador approved Executive Agreement 1661/2023, approving El Salvador’s accession to the IVI Establishment Agreement and request approval by the Legislative Assembly.

 

On 3 January 2024, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador issued Decree 926, approving El Salvador’s accession to the IVI Establishment Agreement.

 

On 12 April 2024, El Salvador deposited an Instrument of Accession to the IVI Establishment Agreement with the United Nations. 

 

On 1 October 2024, IVI Headquarters hosted El Salvador’s accession ceremony alongside a Salvadorian delegation led by the Vice Minister for Policies and Health Management, Mr. Carlos Gabriel Alvarenga Cardoza.

 

Salvadoran Leadership at IVI

 

On 24 June 2024, El Salvador participated in the first virtual session of the IVI Global Council, represented by H.E. Jaime José Lopez Badia, Ambassador of El Salvador to the Republic of Korea.

World Health Assembly Side Event Collaboration

In 2024, IVI organized an event on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly in partnership with the Governments of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Republic of El Salvador, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Republic of Korea, and the Kingdom of Sweden to explore an alignment between national vaccine strategies and efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries.

 

El Salvador was represented by Dr. Amaury Morales Landrove, National Coordinator of the Office of Infectious Diseases, who delivered an address highlighting the threat of AMR and the steps El Salvador has taken to mitigate that threat.
