IVI and Bhutan
Member State Relations
On October 26, 1996, The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Honorable Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering, signed the IVI Establishment Agreement.
The Kingdom of Bhutan has not yet deposited an instrument of ratification to the IVI Establishment Agreement with the UN.
Ongoing Collaboration
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Programs
Since 2018, IVI and Bhutan have been collaborating on systemic advancements in AMR data collection and management to establish improved clinical practices and sustainable AMR/AMU/AMC policies. These projects include CAPTURA, RADAAR, TACE, and EQAsia.
In 2024, the Honorable Minister of Health of Bhutan Lyonpo Tandin Wangchukand and his esteemed colleague Tashi Dawa, Officiating Chief Program officer, hosted an IVI delegation in Thimphu to discuss AMR programs.
In 2024, RADAAR initiated the Evidence-Informed Policy Network with World Health Organization in Bhutan.
Previous Collaboration
World Health Assembly Side Event Collaboration
In 2024, IVI organized an event on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly in partnership with the Governments of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Republic of El Salvador, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Republic of Korea, and the Kingdom of Sweden to explore an alignment between national vaccine strategies and efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries.
Bhutan was represented by Dr. Ugyen Tashi, Chief Program Officer at the Ministry of Health of Bhutan, who delivered an address on the threat of AMR in Bhutan
Supporting Independent Immunization and Vaccine Advisory Committees (SIVAC)
From 2009 to 2013, IVI’s SIVAC initiative provided technical assistance to the governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with the establishment of their National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAG). In 2011, Bhutan hosted the SIVAC workshops in collaboration with WHO regional offices.
