Dr. George R. Siber, IVI Board member, honored by 2016 Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award
The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is pleased to congratulate Dr. George R. Siber, a member of the IVI Board of Trustees and chief scientific officer of ClearPath Vaccines Company, for receiving the prestigious Albert B. Sabin Gold Medal Award for 2016 from the Sabin Vaccine Institute. Dr. Siber has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to immunology and infectious disease research through the development of vaccines for childhood diseases, including pneumococcus, Hib and meningococcus.
Among his countless achievements, he played a pivotal role in the development and licensure of several childhood vaccines including Prevnar®, a pneumococcal vaccine, which has dramatically reduced mortality globally. According to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, between 2011 and 2020, his pneumococcal conjugate vaccine will have prevented an estimated 1.5 million deaths in Gavi-supported countries alone. Dr. Siber has been serving on the IVI Board since February, 2014.
