UGC contest held to promote UN MDGs

Award winners of the UGC contest on the U.N. Millennium Development Goals and
its organizers after the award ceremony held at the IVI headquarters on November 30, 2007.

The IVI hosted a ¡°UGC¡± (user generated content) contest from September to October 2007 to mark the midpoint between the declaration of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2000 and the target year of 2015, and to commemorate the IVI¡¯s 10th anniversary

A total of 61 video clips and 1,017 photographs were submitted to the contest. The grand prize, the IVI Director-General¡¯s Award, went to a video clip titled ¡°Décalcomanie¡± in which amateur producers Park Kyung-won, Park In-joo and Byun Sang-soo creatively used decals to promote the UN MDGs to the general public. Five video clips and 23 photographs were also awarded prizes at a ceremony held at the IVI on November 30, 2007.

Conducted jointly with Korea¡¯s top search engine, Naver, the contest aimed to increase public awareness of the MDGs, a global agenda that sets clear targets for reducing poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation, and discrimination against women by 2015. Established as an initiative of the United Nations Development Program, the IVI is working to make a valuable contribution to the MDGs. The contest, open to anyone interested, sought to let people use their creativity and imagination to promote the eight goals for humanity through video clips and photography. The event was organized by 777 Campaign Organizing Committee for Korea, and sponsored by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea & China Future Forest, Korean Committee for UNICEF, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) National Committee for the Republic of Korea, and UN Governance Center.
