Lee Hye-young, a singer-turned entrepreneur, has joined the campaign of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) to "help save young children."
The IVI appointed "Missing Dorothy," a fashion brand company established by Lee, as the Institute¢¥s seventh Giving Club member in a ceremony held at Missing Dorothy¢¥s head office in Seoul on May 1.
The IVI Giving Club is a group donation program that allows a company or organization to make an annual donation or contributions of more than US$10,000 from its own budget and/or in-house fundraising.
Lee agreed to donate 2 percent of the annual profit from Missing Dorothy¢¥s online shopping mall (www.mdstory.com) to the IVI.
Lee joined the IVI Giving Club after being introduced to it by renowned makeup artist Lee Kyung-min, who runs "Lee Kyung-min Foret." This beauty salon, which has many celebrities as clients, is IVI¢¥s sixth Giving Club member.
The two Lees concurred that, "as Giving Club members, we will focus our efforts on promoting the important mission and activities of the IVI to others, as well as on making financial contribution to the Institute."
As the only international organization based in Korea, the IVI¢¥s mission is to develop and introduce new vaccines for children in the least developed countries in Asia and Africa.
IVI Giving Club members range from an orthodontist clinic to a fusion restaurant to an event organizer, among others.
Meanwhile, Youngone (Chairman Sung Ki-Hak), a leading outdoor apparel maker in Korea, pledged to donate to IVI 30 million won (US$33,000), or about 5 percent of its annual sales revenue from some of its best seller NorthFace brand T- shirts, this year, and contributed 20 million won in first installment in May via the Korea Support Committee for IVI. Earlier Youngone made in-kind donation of apparel worth over 20 million won for a bazaar in October 2005.
