Generating Evidence on the Burden of Infectious Diseases in the Developing World
Our Epidemiology team focuses on infectious disease surveillance, disease burden and epidemiologic studies. A strong element of our work is providing support and technical assistance to developing countries in their disease surveillance and reporting.
This data and capacity to generate such data is crucial to demonstrate the need for vaccines and vaccinations to donors, policymakers and governments.
Our projects have included:
- Capacity-building for Japanese encephalitis and Hib surveillance in North Korea in collaboration with the North Korean Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS), supported by the Korean MInistry of Unification.
- Typhoid Surveillance in sub-Saharan Africa Program (TSAP) supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
